Goldilocks and the Three Bears
What happens in the story
A little girl named Goldilocks wanders into a cottage in the woods while three bears are out on a walk. She tries their porridge, chairs and beds, and finds the small ones just right. When the bears come home, she learns to say sorry and make things right.

Once upon a time, in a little wooden house in the woods, lived three bears. There was a great big Papa Bear, a middle-sized Mama Bear, and a wee little Baby Bear. One morning, Mama Bear made porridge for breakfast. But it was much too hot to eat. "Let's take a walk in the woods," said Papa Bear, "while our porridge cools." So the three bears went out, and they left the door open just a little.

Not long after, a little girl came walking through the woods. She had hair as golden and curly as sunshine, so everyone called her Goldilocks. She saw the little house, and she saw that the door was open. "Hello?" she called. Nobody answered. She was a curious little girl, and she was hungry, so she tiptoed inside. And there on the table were three bowls of porridge.

She tasted the porridge in the great big bowl. "Ouch! This porridge is too hot!" She tasted the porridge in the middle-sized bowl. "Brrr! This porridge is too cold!" Then she tasted the porridge in the wee little bowl. "Mmm! This porridge is just right!" And she ate it all up, every last spoonful.

Then Goldilocks saw three chairs. She sat in the great big chair. "This chair is too hard!" She sat in the middle-sized chair. "This chair is too soft!" Then she sat in the wee little chair. "This chair is just right!" But she wiggled and she jiggled, and crack! The little chair broke into pieces, and down she went, bump, onto the floor.

Goldilocks felt very sleepy now. She went upstairs and found three beds. She lay on the great big bed. "This bed is too high!" She lay on the middle-sized bed. "This bed is too low!" Then she lay on the wee little bed. "This bed is just right." She pulled up the patchwork quilt, and in no time at all, she was fast asleep.

Soon the three bears came home. "Somebody's been eating my porridge," said Papa Bear in his great big voice. "Somebody's been eating my porridge," said Mama Bear in her middle-sized voice. "Somebody's been eating MY porridge," said Baby Bear in his wee little voice, "and they've eaten it all up!" Then they saw the chairs. "And somebody's been sitting in my chair," cried Baby Bear, "and they've broken it!"

Up the stairs they went. "Somebody's been lying in my bed," said Papa Bear. "Somebody's been lying in my bed," said Mama Bear. "Somebody's been lying in MY bed," squeaked Baby Bear, "and she's still there!" Goldilocks opened her eyes. She saw three bears looking down at her! She jumped out of bed. "Oh! I'm so sorry!" she cried. "I ate the porridge, and I broke the chair. I shouldn't have come into your house without asking."

The bears looked at each other. "Well," said Mama Bear kindly, "it was very wrong to come in without asking. But thank you for saying sorry." Goldilocks helped Papa Bear mend the little chair, and Mama Bear made more porridge, just right, for everyone. Then Goldilocks ran home to her mother and told her everything. And after that, she always knocked, and always asked first. And sometimes, she came back to visit Baby Bear, and they played together in the woods. Good night.
